  • Leveraging the Power of Cloud Computing in the Federal Government
Government projects and tasks can be complex undertakings that require huge amounts of data being transmitted through various avenues. Today’s workforce whether it is government or private sector can be headquartered in multiple office locations locally, nationally and globally. Teleworking is another form of the workforce that has entered the mainstream in our current information age. The federal government has adapted to this evolution of the work environment as well. TIME Systems has used Microsoft’s Knowledge SharePoint Network (KSN) as the main tool in data for in the organization and record keeping of complex government publications. The KSN is a form of cloud computing which enables a large group of individual’s access to one main database from any location on the planet with proper Internet access and permission to use that particular SharePoint Site. TIME Systems has created and managed large KSN sites for the federal government. Workflow has become more efficient by using this mode of data sharing. A majority of files and data are now stored in one central point. Email traffic has been greatly reduced with all team members having access to the respective information. Using this type of cloud computing has increased collaboration among team members. Instead of only a few having access to files, SharePoint allows anyone with access rights the power to get involved with a project from when and where they feel the most productive. This puts into account that some people are more efficient workers away from the traditional office setting. The KSN allows an individual access to data from their office, home, laptop computer and mobile devices. The federal government has a very in-depth process for keeping track of its data. TIME Systems has been instrumental by managing document libraries, schedules, task list, among various other means of data management. Team members no longer have to search multiple locations for hundred and/or thousands of documents. Document libraries now house years of information under one roof. Schedules for multiple meetings that include meeting agendas, location, time and team members involved are kept in one single point so that everyone can always stay engaged. Task list for team members are another aspect we have been instrumental in using with the government. Task list ensure that everyone knows what his or her respective responsibilities entail on a project. TIME Systems is proud of our collaboration with the federal government on multiple SharePoint sites. Our expertise in the KSN has allowed for efficient search functions that are used so that individuals can find the information they need in one central location. The use of this technology has become one of the main focal points within many government agencies. Technology has changed dramatically and quickly within the past 10-15 years especially. It is important that the government and private sector workforces keep up with this by adapting to ever-changing workflows. TIME Systems can be the difference in your workflow needs with our wealth of knowledge on data creation and management.
  • eBooks: Smart Business Solutions in an Evolving Information Age
eBooks are one of the latest forms of new media that is becoming a normal part of our lives. An eBook is a book adapted to an electronic format. eBooks can be downloaded to e-readers and tablets such as the iPad, Kindle, Nook, and various other devices. An eBook can also be downloaded to a laptop, smart phone, or desktop computer so that it can be read on a screen. All the elements found in a printed book—numbered pages, table of contents, pictures, and graphics—can be found in an eBook. E-reading has grown at an astonishing rate, especially in the last year. According to a survey conducted this month by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, 40% of adults now own a tablet computer and 40% own an eBook reader. This means that during the last holiday season, users of eBook readers and tablet computers doubled. Use of eBook readers and tablets is a trend that cannot be ignored. Working with the federal government, TIME Systems has been developing and implementing strategic communications activities to avoid the costs of large print publications by creating eBooks for government organizations. In May 2012, The White House released a national IT Strategy for the government entitled Digital Government: Building a 21st Century Platform to Better Serve the American People. http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/egov/digital-government/digital-government-strategy.pdf. One of the main forms of technology covered in this document is that federal agencies should adapt and leverage the power of e-reading into its Outreach programs. TIME Systems has worked with the Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in this capacity. The FAA’s Next Generation Air Transportation System known as NextGen is mandated by Congress to update the public on the overhaul of our National Airspace System from radar based system to a satellite based system of aviation. This annual update is called the NextGen Implementation Plan. TIME Systems worked with the FAA in making the NextGen Implementation Plan into an eBook. This was the first time the agency had turned a document of this magnitude into eBook form. The government, private industry, and non-profits enjoy many advantages in implementing eBooks in their respective organizations: • Fiscal Responsibility: Currently, the federal government is focusing on fiscal responsibility as a major objective, and although government agencies and offices are looking for ways to cut cost, they are not looking to compromise quality. When it comes to organizing, collecting, and publishing information, the eBook is the perfect answer to the question of reducing cost while maintaining quality. • Sustainability Go- Green IT: The use of eBooks is a smart choice for agencies and offices that seek to go green. Unlike printed publications, the eBook requires no trees in its manufacturing and can be reused and shared endlessly (and without further printings). • Convenience: As a digital product, the eBook can be delivered anywhere instantly. A federal agency or office could easily make an eBook available on its website or accessible via a QR code that can be scanned using a smartphone or QR code reader app. Innovative solutions is something we pride ourselves on at TIME Systems, and implementing a strategy for expanding the usage of eBook technology is a smart and emerging business move that TIME Systems is currently developing and capable of executing.TIME Systems helped save the government thousands of dollars by decreasing the number of print books used for an Outreach and Reporting office and can help other agencies and offices do the same.
